User generated content is booming. Youtube being the central site of the past decade where UGC has show how successfull a site can become. But has UGC reached a line, a line that if you cross, you will enter into the darker side of the web.
Whilst writing contextual analysis for latest project, i was trawling the internet for any site that was different but still incorporated the idea of UGC. This was when i stumbled across the idea of lifecasting. What is that i hear you shout from behind your coffee stained mouths. Well it is basically a modern day representation of the film ED-TV.
Yes that is right, ordinary daily people are becoming have-a-go celebrities by attaching a camera to their person and walking around going about their daily lives. So yeah instead of going to the shop to buy the daily sport, you could watch a random in Tokyo going to buy their chow mein. Is this how the world is going to go? are we going to celebritise a few people as they have the energy to get off their arses and go outside.
What if lifecasting takes off on a serious note? will it become compulsory to have one maybe in the future. Like the potential ID cards that are being introduced, will we have to have a camera on us at all times to observe what we are doing. It would be the final nail in the coffin of our privacy.
