Scanning the interweb areas of news joy i found something interesting on the Guardian Homepage.
It is a mouse that is no longer scared of cats as it has been genetically modified by scientists. Fair enough it is a mouse, but when experiments like this are carried out, they are only the small picture. The bigger picture could be something more terrifying.
At the end of the video, Ko Kabayakawa, the scientist behind the experiment, explains that by changing the smell receptors in the mouse it has made the mouse not scared of the cat. The then shocking part is then he goes onto say it would allow other larger animals to not be scared of their enemies. So would this mean that the food chain would just become simple. Simple as in that animals would not know how or what would want to kill and eat them.
But what if it meant that humans were not afraid of their enemies or maybe even their worst physical fear, for example a way to cure fear of dogs.
As said above though, this simple experiment could lead onto something else, what if by genetically modifying our smells we aren’t able to smell certain crap that is put in our food. That is a bit too conspiracy theorist for my liking but you never know, it could happen.
